PMG Choice Uncirculated 63, Proof
Operating as a Free Bank, the bank was in business from approximately 1855 until around 1858. The note features two nautical vignettes: one of a sailor seated with an anchor on a dock, and one of the steamer Pacific (which was lost with all hands in early 1856). The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock and has two red 5 protectors as well as the usual POCs in the signature lines. There was one $5-$5-$5 uncut sheet of this design (Lot 1906) in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. This note is almost assuredly from that sheet as both that auction description and PMG mention two small pinholes well hidden in the upper right corner.
