The Miners Bank of Pottsville was organized in 1828 and remained in business until 1864 when it became the Miners National Bank of Pottsville. The $5 design features a vignette of an allegorical woman seated flanked by framed portraits of Washington and Lafayette. The left end panel has a canal scene while the right end panel depicts an early train. A dog lying by a strongbox appears at bottom center.
