Emeline Store, Emeline Furnace

1841 (Rare)

Emeline Furnace was located 1.5 miles west of Dauphin. It was built in 1835 and was perfectly located for shipment of its output, being located about 100 feet from one of the locks on the Pennsylvania Canal. The note features a vignette of a sailor standing by a huge anchor flanked by vignettes of a steamboat and Justice seated. While the signature matches the name that appears in the text on this note, it may or may not be contemporary to the period. In any case, it is a rare note from a rare issuer.
