Mechanics' Bank in the City of New York

The bank was organized in 1810 and remained until business until succeeded by the Mechanics National Bank of the City of New York in 1865. The design features a sailing vessel at center flanked by denominational counters and end panels. It is printed on yellow laid paper with no forms of cancellation present in the signature lines. This note was originally part of an archive book that was in the Boyd, Ford, and Edlow New York Collections before being acquired by our consignor in 2009. Very rare, there are only two examples known on this type of paper, and there is no reason to believe this will change significantly any time soon.
