1850s

On this note we see a sailor seated on a dock, a red “TEN,” and portrait of Arctic Expeditions Financier Henry Grinnell who, having strong interests in the Arctic, funded expeditions in the 1850s in search of the mysterious John Franklin disappearance. (The Franklin mystery was partly solved in the past few decades – google “Sir John Franklin’s last arctic expedition: a medical disaster.”)
