$5 Proof

The Marine Bank, Buffalo

1850

PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ, Proof
The Marine Bank was organized in 1850 and remained in business until 1902 when it was succeeded by the Marine National Bank of Buffalo. The $5 design featured a large vignette of a number of sailing and steam powered vessels. This was flanked by the state comptroller die at left and a canal towpath scene at right. It is affixed to a Danforth Bald archive book card. This note, plus one other example of the design, appeared as part of Lot 1103 in the 1990 ABN Co Archives sale. These appear to be the only surviving Proof examples of the design at present.
