Gordon & Sammis, Commission Scrip, NY

1870s (See reverse)

Gordon & Sammis were the principals of an importing tailor business that produced high-end clothing using principally European fabrics. The face contains vignettes of an allegorical woman with an eagle under a banner with “SELDOM EQUALLED NEVER EXCELLED” flanked by vignettes of Agriculture at left and a warship under sail at right. The back contains information on the firm, its products, and the redemption process. This currently is the only example of this design known to us.
