$5 Proof

Rockaway Bank, Rockaway

1858

1) Unusual for Proof to have Date.
2) It appears the Rockaway Bank was partially organized but never opened for business. At present it is represented only by Proofs. This $5 design has a center vignette of miners at work, the state banking die at lower left, and a small warship at right. It has a red overall tint and red micro-lettered panel with a dark red “FIVE” protector. One sheet of $1-1-2-5 appeared in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. This note, once part of the Eric P. Newman Collection, sold for $76737.50 in 2016. A lovely note, with wonderful visual appeal, rarity, and provenance, it is expected to do very well in future market environments.
