$20 Proof

Hudson County Bank, Jersey City

1850s

The bank was incorporated in 1851 and remained in business until becoming the Hudson County National Bank in 1865. The $20 design features a detailed scene of a steamship and sailing vessel flanked by the state banking die and a smaller vignette of a teacher with her students at left and another of a locomotive at right. A small vignette of boxes and barrels is at bottom center. There were only two notes of this design in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale (Lot 974) and we know of no other Proofs at present.
