This bank was in operation from approx 1835-40 before closing, no doubt thanks to the Panic of 1837. A wonderful center vignette of an early steamboat steaming past an alligator lounging on the river bank is a highlight of this $50 note. The design also includes a portrait of DeWitt Clinton and a small vignette of a train at bottom center.
