Thomaston Bank

The Thomaston Bank originated in 1825 and remained in business until becoming the Thomaston National Bank in 1865. This beautiful $3 design provides a stunning visual effect, with a large vignette of a busy harbor scene titled In the Harbor, an oval portrait of a young girl, and is then beautifully offset by an intricate red overall tint that “wallpapers” the background in repeated ‘Thomaston’ and ‘3’ that covers the entire note.
There are said to be around four surviving proofs, and these top condition colored proofs seem to be in the vanguard of increasing prices from the present levels.
