$50 Proof

Mechanics Bank of Baltimore

18 _ _

The bank’s roots stretch back prior to 1806 when it operated as an unchartered institution. That was rectified in 1806 and the bank continued in business until becoming the National Mechanics Bank of Baltimore in 1865. This $50 design goes back to about the 1830s and features a busy harbor scene with the focus on the steamboat Carroll. We believe the surviving proof population is no more than three notes.
