MAT-FR.1789

Jeton, the 2nd Colonial Battalion

L'Orient, France

1789

Shield with the arms of the city of Lorient placed on two palms
In the center, in a circle: FOR/ HAVING GIVEN/ TO THE NEEDY/ WHAT VOTA/ RECOGNITION/ FOR THEIR/ PLEASURES/ 3. 9bre. 1789

Very rare. The municipality of Lorient had this token minted to honor the selflessness of the soldiers of a detachment of the Bassigny regiment, who had abandoned to the indigents of Lorient a gratuity which had been granted to them. The 2nd battalion of the Bassigny regiment (future 32nd infantry) served in the West Indies in 1791, it is listed in the work of Jean Lecompte for the general colonies
