20 Riels

People's Republic of Kampuchea, Cambodia

The reverse side of this coin depicting a hulk — a type of ship similar to the cog that was in use in England and other European countries in the 14th century. There is no known relationship between the hulk featured on the reverse and Cambodia. The design has probably been adopted by the Havana Mint to make the coins attractive to European collectors. This is also indicated by the fact that both the country name People’s Republic of Kampuchea on the obverse and the reverse legend OLD SAILING-CRAFT are stated in English, while the coin does not bear any legends in Khmer, the nation’s language.

The obverse depicts the national coat-of-arms.
