$2 Bank of Cape Ann, Gloucester, MA, 1850s, PMG 63, Proof
A genuine note from this famous commercial fishing community — all genuine notes and proofs from this short-lived obsolete bank are rarities. It was organized in 1856 and converted in 1865 to the Cape Ann National Bank of Gloucester. The note presents a lovely layout with a wonderfully detailed fishing fleet vignette at the lower left. Liberty, seated by a federal shield, is at the lower right, and a small red TWO protector is across. Only two known.
