PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ, Hartford, Proprietary Proof
After beginning life as the American Bank and operating under this name from roughly 1855 until 1865, when it became the American National Bank of Hartford. The note’s design is striking, with a great eagle and shield vignette and ships in the background. Two extremely elaborate 100 counters flank the vignette. This is a modern proprietary Proof printed by ABNCo from the original plate in the 20th century for company programs and purposes. It is printed on heavy paper that was often used for these proprietary Proofs and has company property and SPECIMEN stamps on the back. Seldom seen; an impression of an exceedingly rare design.
Formerly of the Charles R. Pease, Jr. Collection, Part III
