Bailiwick of Jersery, Great Britain

25th Wedding Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip

The reverse features the 306-ton bark Alexandra. She was 126 ft (38 m) long, had a beam of 25 ft (7.6 m), and drew 15 ft (4.6 m) of water. She was built in 1865 in Jersey by Mallet for Le Quesne, Pallot & Mallet and had a crew of 12 men. She was in operation through 1877. During the 19th century shipbuilding was one of Jersey’s major industries. In 1860 the island had 18 shipyards that built vessels ranging from small fishing smacks to full-rigged ocean-going ships. Later the shipbuilding industry declined because of the steamboat and the replacement of wooden vessels by iron.
